How to Help Your Child Have Positive Dental Appointments

Do you want your child to have positive and stress-free dental appointments? If so, our dentist, Dr. Sharel Sly, wants the same. The more comfortable your child feels in the dental chair, the better. Fortunately, there are things you can do to help your child have the best dental experience possible, and our dentist is happy to tell you all about them. It’s best to do the following things:

-Don’t use scary words: Scary words, like pain, shot, surgery etc., can make your child nervous and scared for their appointment. It’s best to avoid those words and use more positive words and phrases, like a safe smile, healthy teeth, strong gums and more, when talking about the appointment.

-Bring comfort items to the appointment: This can be anything like a teddy bear or a blanket. The more comfortable and at home your child feels, the better. These items might help keep your child’s heart rate down while they’re in the dental chair.

-Distract your child during treatment: Hold their hand and tell them exciting stories. You could even play music from your phone or their favorite movie or TV show. The more you distract them, the less they think about the treatment.
