What Is Invisalign®?

An alternative to traditional braces, Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment used to align teeth and correct dental problems such as overly crowded teeth or wide gaps between teeth. It is a series of customized, clear, removable aligners that are worn over your teeth over time.

How Does Invisalign Work?

We will first examine your teeth using X-rays and impressions during an initial consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for an Invisalign treatment opposed to other traditional orthodontic treatments. If you are eligible to receive the treatment, we will then create a customized plan that includes mapping out how your teeth will move with each set of aligners and what your smile will eventually look like after treatment has been completed. Then we will have a series of clear aligners made to fit your teeth to start treatment. Over time, the aligners will slowly shift your teeth into place. About every two weeks, you will wear a new set of aligners that will continue to shift your teeth until your treatment is fully complete.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign has started to become a popular form of orthodontic treatment sought out by many patients due to the many benefits the treatment provides, including:

  • Invisalign is designed to be virtually invisible. Because Invisalign is clear, the aligners are nearly undetectable, so you can continue to show off your natural smile as it improves over time.
  • Invisalign is removable. The aligners can be easily taken out for thorough cleaning or anytime you want to eat or drink without restrictions.
  • Invisalign causes little interference with your daily life. Invisalign aligners do not require adjustments—only bi-weekly replacement—and are made with a smooth plastic that is customized specifically to fit your teeth, greatly reducing the chances of bleeding, irritation, or poking to your cheeks or gums.
